Man charged in connection with fatal road crash in West Limerick town

A MAN was arrested and charged this morning in connection with a fatal crash that took place in a West Limerick town more than a year ago and took the life of a Latvian father of two.

According to a statement from An Garda Síochána, a man in his 50s was arrested and charged in relation to a fatal car crash that took place in Rathkeale, County Limerick, more than one year ago on March 18, 2022.

The man appeared this morning (Friday September 8) before Newcastle West District Court shortly after 10.30am.

After facing charges, the man was remanded on bail and will appear before the courts again in early December.

Latvian father of two, Arthurs Birynieks, was killed in the early hours of March 18, 2022, when the articulated truck he was driving collided with a car in Killeheen, Rathkeale.

The Latvian lorry driver, the sole occupant of the truck at the time of the crash, left behind his wife and two children, who were reported to be living in Knock, County Mayo.

The driver of the car, described at the time as a man in his early 50s, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at University Hospital Limerick.
