Calls for Limerick people to avoid burning solid fuels during cold snap

Cllr Elisa O'Donovan

ONE local councillor has issued an icy warning in the face of the recent cold snap, heralding a wave of additional air pollution as people crank up the heating to keep warm.

Social Democrats councillor Elisa O’Donovan called on the people of Limerick to avoid burning solid fuels and switch up their heating systems to cleaner heat sources in an effort to cut down on air pollution.

“The last few weeks have been bitterly cold here in Limerick. The need to stay warm will give rise to additional air pollution including particulate matter (PM2.5) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) in the air which are harmful to the public, especially to those suffering with asthma, young children, and the elderly,” Cllr O’Donovan warned.
