Limerick teams chase national basketball glory

THREE local sides will be engaged in finals at the National Basketball Arena in Dublin on Saturday.

First onto the court at 10am are Limerick Celtics, who run-up against Titans in the Under-20 Menโ€™s National Cup decider.

Tip-off is 12.15pm for the Womenโ€™s Division 1 National Cup showdown between Limerick Celtics and Abbey Seals Dublin Lions, while Limerick Sport Eagles clash with UCD Marian in the Presidentsโ€™ Cup Final at 2.30pm.

In the semi-final of the Presidentsโ€™ Cup, an incredible 56-point haul from Sam Finlay and Kealan Coats ensured a thrilling victory for Matt Hallโ€™s Eagles over Moy Tolka Rovers. A big rebound by Nacho Folgueiras late on was also crucial.

At the weekend, Eagles registered a timely 96-83 league win at Dublin Lions, with Coats and Finlay combining for 46 points.

Tony Hehir heads up the coaching ticket with both the Celtics teams, and the womenโ€™s side had a splendid 75-69 league win over Templeogue at Crescent College on Sunday.

Samantha Coleman emerged the gameโ€™s top scorer with 26 points while Mikayla Brandon and Lucy Devoy were immense under the boards, soaking up a total of 29 rebounds.
