WANDA Dwane, PRO of Mungret St Paul’s GAA, has been named as the Limerick Winner of the Federation of Irish Sport’s Volunteers in Sport Awards, presented by Minister of State with responsibility of Sport at The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dublin.

Wanda is the editor of her club’s weekly newsletter, and last year Mungret St Paul’s won plenty to fill many, many column inches.

Ms Dwane is supported by other PROs from within the club, such as those involved at under-age, camogie, and ladies football.

Representatives of the club said that Wanda’s work on the club newsletter forms a “fantastic way for all our members, supporters and sponsors to see what is going on in the club every week”.

Federation CEO Mary O’Connor commented: “We are delighted to bring together the 2023 recipients of the Volunteers in Sport Awards from all over the country to receive their awards.”

“Without this army of volunteers in clubs all around the country, we would not have the level of grassroots participation that we do.

“It is important to take this time out and show our appreciation to the many unsung heroes of sport. We have heard from our speakers how sport can have such a meaningful and positive impact on our physical and mental health. These volunteers are the conduit to providing that benefit.”
