STAFF in restaurants always appreciate a customer who leaves a tip.

But staff at an Annacotty establishment didn’t appreciate the teenage girl who walked up to the counter and made off with a fistful of money grateful customers had left in their tip jar.

In light of the theft, Limerick Gardaí have warned of the need for shops and restaurants to secure charity boxes and tip jars to prevent opportunistic theft.

Gardaí investigating are appealing to restaurants to keep tip money in a box or a jar with a lid on, and attach the box to the counter.
