Jörg Widmann returns to Irish Chamber Orchestra at UCH

BACK together for Schumann the Romantic, don’t miss a one-off concert with Jörg Widmann and Irish Chamber Orchestra at University Concert Hall, Limerick on Saturday October 5.
Schumann is the most typically “romantic”, in the sense of being concerned with human love. Enjoy his Overture, Scherzo and Finale, a great concert opener, delivered with perfect balance and love by ICO. Marvel at his thrilling Spring Symphony, the most popular and frequently performed of his four symphonies.
Jörg Widmann was Principal Guest Conductor and Artistic Partner of Irish Chamber Orchestra for a dozen years. Together they performed in some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls including the Konzerthaus in Berlin; the Cologne Philharmonie; BOZAR, Brussels; De Singel, Antwerp; Reitstadel, Neumarkt; Carnegie Hall, New York; Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires; Sala São Paulo; and the Library of Congress in Washington.
Widmann’s music spins an intricate web of characteristic gestures, rich scores full of musical and historical reminiscences mixed with his own inventions. His recent re-arrangement of his Chorale Quartet is a slow and more solemn offering to counterbalance the two joyful works by Schumann. It was commissioned by Konzerthaus Dortmund, KölnMusik, and Carnegie Hall.
