A MOTORBIKE guard of honour is being arranged for the funeral of a young man killed in a collision in County Limerick this past Easter Monday (April 21).
David ‘Lemon’ Brooke O’Carroll, (23), from Shanagolden in County Limerick, died after a motorcycle he was riding collided with a car at an intersection at Ardagh village shortly after 6pm on Monday.
Mr O’Carroll, who friends remembered as “a true legend”, was pronounced dead at the scene for the tragic crash, while the driver of the car was taken to hospital for treatment for minor injuries.
Mr O’Carroll’s remains will repose at St Senan’s Church, Shanagolden, from 5pm-7pm this Thursday (April 24), with his funeral mass taking place at midday on Friday followed by burial afterwards at Shanagolden cemetery.
Mr O’Carroll’s family requested that their family home remain strictly private, open to immediate family only on Friday morning.
Tributes were paid to Mr O’Carroll online, including by a family friend, who wrote: “It is heartbreaking, you will always hold a very special place in our heart David (Lemon), you will never be forgotten and a light will always shine bright upon your soul”.
“Rest in eternal heavenly peace”.
Another friend wrote: “Sincere condolences to Dave’s family, he was one of a kind, the memories me and him have I’ll cherish forever.”
In an online post, one of Mr O’Carroll’s closest friends shared photos of himself and the desceased, explaining he was planning to arrange motorcars and motorbikes to take part in a guard of honour at Mr O’Carroll’s funeral.
“David (Lemon) we all know he was a mad petrol head, and his passion for cars, bikes, tractors, etc., was like no other, so it would be greatly appreciated if we could get a crowd to give him the send off he wants and deserves,” he wrote.
The late David is deeply regretted by his parents Daniel and Pauline, sisters Jennifer and Michelle, his girlfriend Sarah and her sons Gavin and Graham, cousins Evan and Luca, nephew James, niece Emma, aunts, uncles, and a wide network of friends, family, and neighbours.
Appealing for information following the tragic crash, a Garda spokesperson for Newcastle West Garda Station asked for “any road users who may have camera footage (including dashcam) and were travelling in the area at the time … to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí” at 069 20650, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
