
TRIBUTES were paid to a young man who was killed while carrying out construction work at a house in County Limerick, who will be laid to rest this Saturday.
Brendan Brosnan, 20s, from Templeglantine and Abbeyfeale, was lost his life on Monday at a house at Athea, where he had been carrying out demolition works.
It’s understood Mr Brosnan had been operating a mini demolition machine at the property when a wall or chimney collapsed on him.
Funeral mass for the young man will take place at The Church of the Most Holy Trinity, Templeglantine at11am on Saturday, followed by burial at the adjoining Reilig na Tríonóide.
He repose at his home in Meenoline, Templeglantine, from 5pm-8pm on Thursday.
Mr Brosnan is survived by his parents Catherine and Brendan, brothers Christopher and Eoin, and sisters Ciara, Aoife, Sinead, and Katie.
A wave of tributes were shared in the days passing, with one mourner saying the late Mr Brosnan “always so pleasant and willing to help of his many visits to St Gabriel’s school, playing music etc to entertain his brother’s friends”.
“Our hearts are broken on hearing about the passing of Brendan. A lovely friendly hard working handsome young man with his whole life ahead of him,” another mourner wrote.
Family friend and local Fine Gael councillor Liam Galvin said: “Brendan was one of the nicest young lads one could ever meet. All he wanted to do was work with machinery, and he was very skilled with his hands.”
“It’s just so sad; it’s heartbreaking, all my thoughts are with his family. I was with the family earlier and they are heartbroken.
“He was stone-mad for machinery and he always wanted to be up on tractors and driving machines; It’s a very sad thing.”
The Health and Safety Authority said it is aware of the fatal incident and has lunched an investigation into the circumstances.
