THE extension of the Back-to-School Clothing and Footwear Allowance to children aged two and three for the first time means that 4,766 families across Limerick City and County will automatically receive their allowance this July.

The rate of payment for 2026 is €160 for children aged two to 11 and €285 for children aged 12 or over in second-level education.

Families who do not receive notification of automatic payment can make an application through MyWelfare.ie.

Limerick Senator Dee Ryan welcomed the scheme’s extension, saying: “Anyone raising young children knows how quickly children outgrow clothes and shoes and these costs can really add up for families.”
