‘MIRACLE In Ballyneety’ is the title of a new book from the pen of esteemed local sports writer Ivan Morris.
It chronicles the remarkable story of Ballyneety GC, from its inception in 1994 through its demise and liquidation in 2011 and its rebirth just two years later.
The venue will host the Junior Ryder Cup in 2027.
As one would expect from Morris, himself the president of Limerick GC, the book is beautifully written and contains hundreds of photographs of so many people, landmarks events and stories connected to one of the great success stories of Limerick life.
At its launch were guests such as Mayor John Moran, Golf Ireland President Fiona Delargy, Golf Ireland CEO Mark Kennelly, Director Golf Ireland Richard Hills, Ministers Niall Collins and Kieran O’Donnell, Deputy Willie O’Dea and Senator Maria Byrne.
The event, compered by Valerie Wheeler, was hosted by Cluf Officers Pat Wade, Aine Feeney and Dolores Curtin.
Miracle In Ballyneety is priced at €25.
This writer remembers with fondness the offical opening of the club back in ‘94, when the special guest was then Taoiseach Albert Reynolds, who arrived by helicopter and was greeted, in the first intance, by the late local TD Eddie Wade.
