
THE popularity of electric vehicles (EVs) is on the rise in Limerick.
That’s according to the latest figures on car registrations from The Society of the Irish Motor Industry, based on 261 vehicle registrations for the first six months of the year.
According to the figures, there were 635 new electric cars registered across Limerick city and county from January to May 2026.
That figure is up 113 per cent on the same period last year, when 333 new electric cars were registered across the county.
The percentage growth of EV registrations in Limerick ranks the second highest nationally, behind Roscommon.
In the same period, 2,805 general new car registrations were made across the city and county, up 8.34 per cent from 2,589 between January and May 2025.
