IT WAS a disappointing day for the local Oscar Traynor side on Sunday as they bowed out of this year’s competition at the quarter-final stage.

After reaching last year’s final there were high hopes that this season’s squad would go that step further, but alas it was Clare who came out on top, winning by the odd goal in three.

The Limerick side will know that it was the missed chances in the opening half that cost them, as in the second 45 the boys from the Banner County struck twice. Firstly through Eoghan Hayes from the penalty spot, before quickly doubling their account when Joe Collins struck. Shane Clarke’s goal saw it finish 2-1 to Clare as the host county exited the tournament. It is now 19 years since this trophy came to Limerick. Too long a wait for all local soccer fans.

In the only Premier League game to take place last weekend, Carew Park, with a slender one nil victory over Moyross, saw them close within a point of the leaders.

The only goal of this came from Adam Frahill as his screamer flashed to the net.
