Limerick Against Pollution are holding a march on Sunday the 13th of May at 1pm

This weekend is the last chance saloon for residents of Mungret, Dooradoyle and Raheen to tell the Environmental Protection Agency loud and clear that an incinerator cannot be allowed at Irish Cement’s Mungret plant.

Limerick Against Pollution have organised for a march to take place this Sunday May 13th at 1pm from City Hall, Merchants Key to Peoples Park. The march will leave at 2pm.

Limerick Against Pollution are also encouraging people to design a sign or a poster with a message on it to hold while they are taking part in the march.

Limerick Against Pollution spoke to the Limerick Post about the issue “The closing date to object to the Environmental Protection Agency regarding the granting of an Industrial Emission Liecence is May 16th so we’re trying to get as many submissions loged priortothat closing date. There are close to 2,800 submissions to date”

Limerick Against Pollution added “We feel there is no democratic process at local level any more. Most of the councillors have been on our side in terms of objecting to these plans. In the end, one of the immense frustrations of all of this is we have not been given a democratic”

“There is a lot at stake right now. Because of the force of the democratic process and the inability of the councilliors to reflect how the people feel; and the disregard for an alternative view, one of the only ways we can show our utter sense of outrage and frustration is to have a protest march through the centre of Limerick city” The group explained.

We have to send a message to the Minister for Health, the Minister for the Environment and the Government at large that this is unacceptable. It’s called a Family Protest March, because this is a public health concern to every family in the city.” Councillor James Collins added.
