Wexford’s James Owens to referee Limerick v Galway All-Ireland Final

It has been confirmed this afternoon that James Owens of Wexford will be the man in the middle for Limerick’s All-Ireland Hurling Final with Galway at Croke Park on August 19.

Owens has refereed Limerick twice during the Munster Hurling Championship – their draw with Cork in Pairc Ui Chaoimh and their defeat to Clare in Ennis. The Askamore clubman sent off Limerick players in both those games.

It will be the Wexford native’s second All-Ireland Final having previously taken charge of Galway v Kilkenny in 2015. Last year’s All-Ireland Final referee, Tipperary’s Fergal Horgan is the standby referee.

Elsewhere, Ballylanders clubman and former Limerick inter county footballer, Johnny Murphy will officiate in the Minor All-Ireland Final between Kilkenny and Galway. This season has been Murphy’s first on the elite panel of inter county referees.
