Limerick FC sign Karl O’Sullivan, Aaron Fitzgerald and Robbie Williams

Limerick FC continued preparations for the 2019 Airtricity League First Division season by completing the signings of trio Karl O’Sullivan, Aaron Fitzgerald and Robbie Williams.

Williams returns to the club after spells with Cork City and Galway United. The former Limerick FC captain was released by former manager Neil McDonald in July 2017 before John Caulfield signed the veteran who went to win the FAI Cup with the Leesiders. Last season, Williams plied his trade with Galway United in the Airtricity League First Division.

He previously played with the Shannonsiders from 2013-2017 having been signed by former manager Stuart Taylor. Williams had been a fans favourite during his first spell at the club and will add experienced to a very inexperienced team.

Speaking to the club’s official website on the signing, manager Tommy Barrett stated that Williams will be a player coach and will also coach the u-19s side.

“I’m delighted to have Robbie back in as a player coach and also in as a coach with the U19’s, he is a great asset both as a player and coach with this being a natural move for him. Robbie holds his UEFA B and will be looking to progress up the ladder next year.”

Karl O’Sullivan was part of the 2018 squad which were relegated from the Airtricity League Premier Division following a playoff defeat to Finn Harps in November. The young winger graduated from the academy and made numerous starts and appearances from the bench.

He was a bright light in a poor season for the club. However, with the club dropping a division, supporters will be hoping that O’Sullivan can add more assists and goals to his game to improve his confidence at this level.

Aaron Fitzgerald is another academy graduate who appeared on the substitutes bench on many occasions for the club last season. Fitzgerald impressed manager Tommy Barrett during his appearance on the final day of the premier division campaign against Waterford. It is likely that Fitzgerald will be afforded more time on the pitch this season with the drop to the first division as the club will be reliant on homegrown young players.

The three players join Shaun Kelly, Sean Russell, Adam Foley and Ger Barry in committing their short term futures to Limerick FC. Furthermore, Killian Brouder, Conor Ellis, Tommy Holland and Will Fitzgerald are all under contract at the club for the coming season.
