Pallasgreen’s Colin Ryan crowned National Poc Fada champion at the Cooley Mountains

AFTER finishing fourth in the 2019, Ryan was crowned the winner on Saturday’s event.

2018 All-Ireland winner Colin Ryan has added another national title to his collection on Saturday after winning the National Poc Fada competition in the Cooley Mountains, Louth.

After finishing fourth in the 2019 edition, Ryan was declared the winner on Saturday in the 60th anniversary of the comepetiton.

Against ten others, Ryan finished clear of defending champion Kiely who was seeking a three in a row. Kiely finished 6th with Cathal Kiely and Laois goalkeeper Enda Rowland making up the top three.

He becomes the fifth Limerick man to win the event with Vincent Godfrey the first winner in 1961. Pat Hartigan was the next Limerick man to succeed, winning a brace of titles in ’81 and ’83. Tommy Quaid was victorious in 1991 while Albert Shanahan won two titles in 2001 and 2005.

Limerick handball icon Martina McMahon competed in the camogie event where she finished fifth.
