MUSICIANS, bands, schools and community groups across Limerick are being urged to take part in a new nationwide fundraising and awareness campaign as Focus Ireland launches ‘Make Some Noise’ on Friday May 1, in partnership with SPIN South West.
The initiative invites singers, DJs, choirs and community organisations to stage performances, host gigs and create their own ‘noise moments’ throughout the day to raise funds and awareness for the national homelessness charity. Live music events supported by SPIN South West will take place at Limerick’s Crescent Shopping Centre from 10am to 6pm, featuring locally based musicians.
The campaign arrives against a backdrop of a deepening homelessness crisis, with figures showing a 9% rise in the past year. Nationally, 17,308 people are currently without a home, including almost 5,500 children. Across the Mid West, 736 people are living in emergency accommodation, among them 331 children and 197 families.
SPIN South West presenters Ed Roche and Valerie Wheeler said the station was proud to lend its voice to the cause. “It’s truly heartbreaking to know so many children are living without a place to call home,” they said, adding that they would encourage listeners to get involved and sign up.
Focus Ireland is asking anyone wishing to participate to register ahead of the May 1 event. Further information is available through the charity’s website – Sign up at focusireland.ie and via SPIN South West.
