LIMERICK City is to benefit from nine new GardaĆ on the beat, following today’s (Friday May 1) graduation ceremony at the Garda Training College in Templemore.

This comes alongside the 20 additional GardaĆ posted to the city following Templemore graduations last August and 30 additional GardaĆ posted to the wider Limerick Garda Division across the county at large in February – adding up to almost 60 new GardaĆ for Limerick in the past 10 months.

County Limerick TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice, Niall Collins, welcomed the announcement, explaining that of the nine new GardaĆ, six would be stationed at Henry Street Garda Station and three in Roxboro Garda Station.

ā€œThis is another positive development for policing in Limerick and comes on the back of a previous very significant allocation to Limerick in early February last which saw over 31 new Gardaƍ allocated to Limerick,” Minister Collins said.

“In total so far this year, we have now received 40 new GardaĆ into Limerick. This has allowed local Garda management to roll out high visibility policing across the city and also redirect experienced GardaĆ across our county stations to serve our rural communities.”

In total, 193 new GardaĆ are to be stationed across the country following today’s graduations, including 134 men and 59 women.

141 are to be posted to the Dublin Region, 27 to the Eastern Region, 14 to the Southern Region, and 11 to the North Western Region.

There has been much praise for GardaĆ in recent months following the ramping of up a High Visibility Policing campaign across the city.
